Theology and Steak

Meat for the Mind, Body, and Soul

  • Theology and Steak?

So what is Theology and Steak? It is a Jesus Christ-centered blog from a person whose heart is burdened more and more by a need to evangeize those actually in the church. The name came from my desire to teach simple meat and potatoes theology, and was born out of two things that have happened in my life: One was the frustration at many chuches, at least from my own experience, that are light on doctrine and theology and big on entertainment and felt needs. The second thing was a discovery of the doctrines of grace and the five solas of the Reformation. Scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone, and to the Glory of God alone. Much of this blog will come from my experiences, analyses, and thoughts. Please feel free to comment. Soli Deo Gloria

Abortion and the god of self

Posted by theologyandsteak on August 13, 2007

The god of self is alive and well in America today, and it has manifested itself in the travesty (or right, depending on your viewpoint) of abortion.

Let’s face it.  Abortion is not a medical or physical issue.  The fetus inside a human body is a human being.  Genetically this can be shown to be a fact.  After all, what else can it be?  Despite some people’s evolutionary gymnastics, two human beings can only reproduce another human being.  The fetus is also alive, because the last time I checked, dead things do not grow.  Clearly, the baby in a woman’s womb develops, grows, and matures into a full infant in about 9 months, give or take.  Yes, the baby grows because it is dependent on its mother for a while.  But dependency is not a determining factor with regard to viability.  My daughter is an insulin-dependent diabetic, and requires this medicine for her very life.  Yet her dependency on insulin does not make her any less human.  In fact, she is a wonderful teenage girl that is already making an impact on people’s lives for the cause of Christ (and yes, I am a doting father!).  Size difference and location can’t be used to differentiate a human from a “nonhuman.”  My location (inside or outside the womb) doesn’t make me any less or more human just as my location inside a hospital or outside a hospital doesn’t make me any less or more human.  People who are bigger are not any more human than smaller people.
